Shared Story Telling

The experience of shared storytelling!

I’ll provide the plot, the world, the villains and the NPCs. And you provide the heroes (anti-heroes?) and the story.

A good way to think of this is the classic Lord of the Rings. The plot is Sauron raging his great war, forming alliances with Saruman, while the Gondor and Rohan try to oppose him. But the story! The story is about Frodo and Sam, the friends they make along the way, and ultimately in destroying the One Ring.

I’ll do the plot. You do the story.

Together we will make something truly epic.

Character Driven

The best stories are character-driven stories, so we will be a lot of character development before gathering around the (virtual) table.

I’ll arrange a time for each player to work through their character and answer such questions as

  • Where did the grow up?

  • Why are they not there now?

  • What family do they have?

  • What enemies have they gotten along the way?

  • What are their bonds? Ideals? Flaws?

  • What are the expected key moments in the future that will play a part in forging the story of this character?

The more information you give me about your character, the more I can craft plot hooks around which your character will be key.

I’ll create a shared Google document for each PC so the player and myself have a clear understanding of the character.

The excellent tool called the Heroic Chronicle found in the The Explorer's Guide to Wildemount is an excellent resource.

Here a couple of backgrounds for characters I have played: Sister Abedi (this one is quite long) and Theren Liadon.

A Whole World to Explore

Adventures need a world. The Lord of the Rings had Middle Earth, C.S.Lews created Narnia, and the late great Terry Pratchett created the Discworld.

You too will have a world of your own to explore. This may come from pre-published settings like the Forgotten Realms, Eberron, and Exandria. Or it might be a world of my own creation.

In the case of pre-published worlds, I will change them as I set fit.  Statements like “but that is not what happens in Critical Role” will not be a valid one.

Rest assured, regardless of the world we use, it will filled to the brim with interesting NPCs and wonderous locations to explore.
